Today I’m going to walk you through how to make DIY Catnip Toys. This year we grew our own catnip so we had an abundant supply. I also had a left over bag of catnip in the cabinet and a tube of catnip that was gifted to us when we brought home our new kitten Pepper. If you need some catnip, click here to grab some on Amazon.
The First Step is to gather all of your available catnip. Then get your food processor out and mix all the catnip together. I made sure to make it an even consistency so the sticks wouldn’t poke through the socks.
The Second Step is to get some socks that you don’t use anymore. The socks that we used were my daughter’s old socks that she can’t fit anymore and ones that we lost the mate to. Then we repurposed the brown paper stuffing from our Amazon Boxes and made little balls. You could also use junk mail or any other paper that you won’t be using anymore.
Now, for step three, it’s time to start the assembly process. We had doubles of the Mermaid and Flower socks so we put one sock on our hand and slid the match over top so you get 2 layers of thickness. Then we put one of the unmatched small socks in the bottom of each long sock. Then we layered in the paper balls and scoops of catnip. At the end we put another small sock in the top to seal it. We tied a knot on the inside sock to keep it all together and then tied another knot on the outside sock. When the outside sock gets dirty from being kicked around, you can easily unknot it and throw it in the wash.
Finally, we’ve made it to the end of our tutorial! Step 4 is the easiest part. Give the new toy that you made to your furry feline to enjoy! Comment below if you were able to complete this DIY Catnip Toys tutorial and tell us how excited your kitty was for their new toy!
